Goal

Refresh their online presence and overhaul their existing web technology using the content management system, Sitecore.

Cobb Electric Membership Corporation is a not-for-profit electric membership cooperative providing reliable electric energy. Formed in 1938, Cobb EMC started as an electric utility with 489 residential members and 14 commercial accounts.

Serving approximately 196,000 residential and commercial customers, Cobb EMC is now one of the largest of Georgia’s 42 EMCs, and is among the largest of the nation’s approximately 900 EMCs.

Challenge

Managing Cobb EMC’s website content is a shared effort between marketing and IT. This is typical for their size. Marketing develops the creative content and ideas for the website but have to rely on IT to implement those changes.

IT has a full workload keeping up with maintenance, infrastructure, and security tasks. No matter how fast IT can respond to marketing’s requests, there is a delay in getting content up on the website.

Cobb EMC wanted to be able to give the marketing department more control over the website content with a solution that passed their security and infrastructure requirements. This would reduce IT’s workload and also enable their Marketing team to be more autonomous, make content changes at any point in time, and reduce waiting time.

Strategy, Sitecore CMS and Salesforce CRM Restructuring: Upgrading CRM to improve customer reach and visibility into the sales funnel

Per Cobb EMC’s request, the solution had to include:

  • Cut down time to make content changes to the website
  • Give the marketing department more autonomy and control over the website content
  • Minimize IT workload for content updates and additions
  • Add ability for Cobb EMC customers to manage their account and pay their bill online

Solution:
CMS & Website Implementation

Arke worked closely with Cobb EMC’s IT department to identify the best content management system for their organization. Once the Sitecore CMS platform was chosen, Cobb EMC’s marketing department, and their marketing agency, along with Arke, worked hand-in-hand in order to implement the new website. Following Arke Systems’ internally developed Sitecore implementation methodology, Cobb EMC was able to go from creative design to a live site in under 90 days.

In addition to launching the Cobb EMC site on the Sitecore platform, Arke also was able to integrate the website to Cobb EMC’s account management portal. This now allows Cobb EMC’s customers to login to their account via the website, pay their bills, manage their energy usage, and communicate with customer support.

Arke + Sitecore puts publishing control in hands of marketing eliminating the need for IT to make or deploy content updates.

The solution included:

  • Implementation of Sitecore CMS
  • Collaboration on UI and UX initiative
  • Sitecore content management training for Cobb EMC’s marketing team

Results

With the Sitecore platform deployed, Cobb EMC’s marketing department has been able to make content changes to the website quickly and without IT’s technical assistance. Cobb EMC approaches their website with a new perspective. Without being limited by time-to-publishing constraints or platform limitations, Cobb EMC is leading their competition and anticipates a direct correlation between this initiative, to their top line revenue.

And, the new site was named North American Sitecore Site of the Year in 2011 in addition to going live with the site within 90 days of the projects’ start.
